What are the categories being prioritised by funders today in Aotearoa New Zealand?
Fundsorter has undertaken the first major analysis of contestable grant funding in Aotearoa New Zealand and the insights from this show what is being specifically prioritised by funders.
Nearly 2,000 funding opportunities, covering 37 broad categories, are included. The stats used in this analysis do not measure dollar amounts, focusing instead on the number of public funding opportunities and the categories that are being prioritised.
The data is available as an all of Aotearoa New Zealand set, or by each of sixteen regions.
You can see the percentage of opportunities that are available in a selected region by each of the 37 broad categories, as well as a +/- percentage change comparing that region to the national data.
What does this data tell us?
- FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES: Biodiversity and conservation feature in 15.7% of funding opportunities and Climate change appears in 12.7%.
- Family/sexual violence is at the other end of the scale and only appears in 0.8% of opportunities.
- All - a generalist category describing funders that look to support all community groups - applies in 29.2% and these funding opportunities are essentially open to communities to determine what is needed.
This data is live and will continue to reflect any updates to the Fundsorter database. Over time any mismatches between community need and funding availability will be highlighted.
