National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week 18-24 June 2023 honours the collective energies and mana of all volunteers in Aotearoa.
This Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu – National Volunteer week, the theme is ‘Time to Shine – He wā pīataata’ and provides an opportunity for you to thank volunteers for the difference they’ve made and the impact they’ve had on those you help.
It's also an opportunity to shine a light on the impact of volunteering:
- Volunteering contributes an estimated $4 billion to the New Zealand economy – yet it is under-resourced and under-valued.
- Volunteer infrastructure and management needs to be recognised and valued so that volunteering is supported.
- Volunteer-involving organisations should encourage government and other funders to invest in volunteering infrastructure and technology.
- Strategic investment in infrastructure, capacity and capability will pay huge dividends in the ability of the sector to overcome challenges and contribute to volunteer wellbeing and strong communities.
